The two towers are symbols of Japan’s capital. And each reflects the spirit of its own era.
Tokyo Tower was built during Japan’s postwar recovery in the Showa period.
It played an important role in communication. For many years, it supported television broadcasting.

On the other hand, Tokyo Skytree was created as a new digital broadcasting tower.
And it gained worldwide attention as the tallest tower in the world.
These towers are not only tourist attractions. They also appear in movies, anime, and dramas.
And many of these works are famous around the world.

Learn Japanese Comparison Expressions with Towers

“〜より…です”

This grammar pattern is used when you compare two things. The adjective for comparison goes in the “…” part.
Examples:

• とうきょうスカイツリーは　とうきょうタワーより　たかいです。
  Tōkyō Sukaitsurī wa Tōkyō Tawā yori takai desu
  Tokyo Skytree is taller than Tokyo Tower
• とうきょうタワーは　とうきょうスカイツリーより　ふるいです。
  Tōkyō Tawā wa Tōkyō Sukaitsurī yori furui desu
  Tokyo Tower is older than Tokyo Skytree
• とうきょうは　おおさかより　ひとが　おおいです。
  Tōkyō wa Ōsaka yori hito ga ōi desu

“〜がいちばん…です”

This grammar pattern is used to indicate the “most” among three or more things. The adjective goes in the “…” part.
Examples:

• とうきょうタワーが　いちばん　にんきです。

• にほんで　とうきょうスカイツリーが　いちばん　たかい　タワーです。

この文型は、二つのものをくらべるときに使います。「…」に比較に使う形容詞が入ります。

• とうきょうは　おおさかより　ひとが　おおいです。

「〜がいちばん…です」
